Once you are familiar with where the chords are on your
intrument, you
don't need to play accompaniments as whole notes unless
you want to. Instead, you can finger or strum in different rhythms and different note patterns. There
are many different styles of accompaniment that can be played
using the notes of the three basic chords. Some examples
are as follows, and these types of chord patterns and rhythms
work well for piano or guitar.

For the
guitar, the autoharp or other chording instrument, simply
play the chords that have the same names as the I, the
IV, and the V7 chords in the key of the tune. Each tune
in the tutorial shows the names of these chords.
For example, in the key of C, play the chords C, F and G7
to harmonize the tune.
