Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of
the Week Melanie Jude, a 5-8 junior setter for 19th-ranked Minnesota State (17-8, 7-4 NCC), has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week after leading the Mavericks to two North Central Conference wins, including an upset of 14th-ranked Augustana (S.D.). Jude nearly posted a quadruple-double with 63 assists, nine kills, eight digs and eight blocks in the 3-2 win over Augie. The 63-assist effort was a career high for Jude and ranks sixth on the MSU single-match list. Her blocking effort of eight was also a career best. Jude dished out 43 assists, collected eight digs and served up two aces while guiding the Mavericks to a .348 team hitting effort in a sweep of South Dakota State. She averaged 13.25 assists, 2.00 digs, 1.38 kills and 1.38 blocks over the course of the eight games. Jude directed the MSU offense to a .269 team hitting percentage, bettering the season percentage of .220. She also bettered her season assist average of 11.47 by over an assist per game.
