Biography

 

Janet Cherrington, B.A. Public Administration, M.S. Administration, Ph.D. Urban Affairs and Public Policy, teaches graduate courses in city management and undergraduate courses in urban studies at Minnesota State University, Mankato (MSU) in the Urban and Regional Studies Institute.  She is a tenured professor at the associate rank and prior to entering higher education, Janet spent over twenty years in local government management.  During these years, she was employed as a municipal manager, financial director, served as an elected official, and acted as a grassroots legislative liaison for a regional planning commission.  She is a member of ICMA, and the Minnesota City/County Managers Association, the Minnesota Women in City Government, and serves on the Research Advisory Board of the League of Minnesota Cities.  Janet’s areas of research include city management and local government media relations, immigrant housing patterns, and learn-by-doing education.  She has presented at numerous conferences at the regional, national, and international levels.  This conference proceeding and others she has made can be found on Janet’s personal web page at www.intech.mnsu.edu/cherrington.
