Warren and Second Sts.

Look at the Florist Shop.  It is obviously an addition to the older home behind it.  Look closely and explore the Italianate house behind it.  Do you believe this is what should happen to old homes?  Or is this just an attempt by a business to find a way into a residential neighborhood?  What would you feel like if you lived next door?  What could you legally do to stop this from happening?  (By the way, don’t blame the florist, it was changed like this long before they moved in).

SOME PERTINENT QUESTIONS

Editor Free Press:
Can you inform me how much water is now being pumped daily, how many hours the
city pump is operated and also how many water motors are in use and the amount paid
for each one?

Is it true that city wells are failing, or are they running to waste?  The Broad St well
used to leak badly,- has it been fixed?

How much will another well cost?  Is it fair for the council to charge a man who
sprinkles two or more lots $2 a lot and only give him the same hours as a man with
one lot?

After collecting $2 a lot for the season does the council want to ruin such lawns as
Court House, Normal School, and others that it now cuts the time down to two
hours, regardless of whether it is one lot or ten?

Why shouldn’t a man have two hours on each lot with one sprinkler, if he pays for them?

Water Consumer.

For reply to the subject matter of the above communication we shall be obliged to refer “Water Consumer” to the board of public works or to the council.  It is possible that one or both of these bodies may be able to set themselves right before the large number of people who are to be deprived of the use of water and to satisfy the general public that the flow of water is not what it has been.  But by all means the information asked for should be forthcoming.
