My philosophy of teaching is based upon the premise
that education should enlighten, enrich, and empower traditional and
non-traditional students. Given the
very nature of today’s diverse society and global existence, there is little
doubt that learning is a critical tool for survival in these rapidly changing
and increasingly complex times. In
addition, because of the substantive amounts of information available to us
through the electronic media, it is essential to challenge students with new
modes of active learning and development of technological skills. In order to do this, I believe a teacher
must strive for a pedagogical style that accomplishes a number of goals. The first is to relate theoretical concepts
to interesting “real-world” experiences with which students can identify. The second is using technology as a means
around which to structure, rather than dictate, course content. Above all, my overriding philosophy on
education is to engage students in a pattern of life-long learning that will
continue to enhance their lives.
