Dr. Janet Cherrington
participated
again this year in the League of MN Cities’ Research Advisory Committee, whose
charge is to identify meaningful topics for MN cities and a research
methodology. Janet also served as a member of the League’s 2002 conference
planning committee and in June will be joining the League’s 15-member
delegation of elected officials to study diversity in Norway. Her other
teaching and research activities include receiving a $5000 Bush Foundation/MnSCU Learn-By-Doing grant in the fall of 2001 to expand
her virtual walking tour with student essays and multimedia projects. In June
of 2000, a research-in-progress paper on this project was presented by Janet at
an international conference. The final results of this Learn By
Doing project/ research were presented at an MnSCU
conference in April 2002 and later published online. Cherrington
served as a faculty coordinator for the MSU Undergraduate Research Conference
in March of 2002. In the fall of 2002, she will submit her application for
tenure and look forward to joining the Institute as a long-standing faculty member.
In the spring, Kristi Wibben recognized Janet as a
teacher who had “a profound impact on her life as a student” by selecting her
to receive the MSU Apple Polisher Award.
