One of the major aspects of the urban renewal of downtown Mankato was the construction of the Holiday Inn in 1978.  Originally it was supposed to be nine stories high with a parking ramp below.  But because the parking ramp was already built and could not support that many stories, the plans were altered.  (Joseph Leonard, Manager)  Today it has four stories with approximately 150 rooms.
