Diversity in Mankato:
Mankato is the first real city in United States that I have lived in. It has so much to offer. It represents a very diversified community. According to Herbert Gans, urban diversity is a product of certain social characteristics, such as, class, age, and gender.[i] We see a lot of variety in Mankato’s community based on these characteristics. The students at MSU have added a significant variety to the Mankato community. We have many International students and faculty members here from different part of the world and they practice their unique lifestyles and cultures in Mankato’s community. It is also worth mentioning that lots of the offices I have seen in Mankato have a significant amount of employees who are women compared to men. May be women are more apt to do clerical official jobs. On the contrary, in my computer classes, I see more guys than I see the girls’ reason being the content may be too technical for most of the women.
