Welter and Linster Families

My great-grandmother Anna Linster's family came to the U.S. from Hondelange (Hondelingen), Belgium (formerly part of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg) in the 1860s.  My great-grandfather Matthias Welter's mother's family (the Grethens) came from Waldbredimus, Luxembourg.  The Linster and Welter families settled near Fredonia, Belgium, and Holy Cross, Wisconsin.  In 1880, Matthias Welter and Anna Linster came west and married in Alton, Iowa.  They moved to Grafton, ND, for a time, then returned to Granville, IA, where they operated Welter's Saloon and Pool Hall.   Their four children were Mary (Mae) Welter Schwebach, Roseline Lillian Welter Bunkers Thorman, Theresa Welter O'Connor Lieb, and Silverius Welter.
