Hottua, Bormann, Lanners Genealogy: A year ago, I received an e-mail message (below) from Claude Lanners of Luxembourg City, who is a cousin via the Hottua line. I met Claude and his family in Luxembourg later in the year. Claude has attached his files: click on "Hottua information" at left. The photo below was taken at the Lanners' home in Luxembourg City.
Dear Suzanne, Le'w Cousine, May I introduce myself and give you an explanation for the very direct address to you I chose: my name is Claude Lanners, I live in Luxembourg and I am a descendant of the Feulen Hottuas via my mother Suzanne Hottua, who is the daughter of Nicolas Hottua and Justine Bormann, the couple you mention on your Simmerl - Hottua internet page in relation with Stan Bormann's site http://www.visi.com/~bormann/bormann_genealogy.htm I am working on Stan's database which I complete as I can collect additional information, especially on my family branches like the Lanners's and Hottuas who are both long time Feulen families: the Lanners' as tailors and the Hottuas as blacksmiths. My Hottua genealogy which I attach contains presently about 240 individuals and you will see that our common ancestors are Peter Hottua (1779-1847) and Catherine Glaesener. The genealogy program Family Tree Maker defines our relationship as "4th cousins once removed". Starting with Maternus Hottua (this first name, if it is one, strikes me and calls for clarification) you are the 11th generation as are my children Martine and Michel who are your 5th cousins. Reading In Search of Susanna was most interesting for me under several aspects: completing my family history, following you and Rachel on your European and especially Luxembourg peregrinations, getting acquainted with your personal experience and history on the background of your Suzanna ancestor. Many of the Luxembourgers you mention are friends. I see on your site that you are going to have a sabbatical year and that you will spend at least part of your Summer in Luxembourg. Although I regret that we have not met during your frequent visits in the past in Luxembourg, I would very much appreciate if we could get together during your stay in Luxembourg. You are most cordially invited to "embrace one more cousin" (In Search of Susanna p. 240)and to chat about our common ancestors. Look forward to hear from you and to see you soon in your home country. Greetings -- Claude Lanners, 51, Bd Simonis, L-2539 Luxembourg, Tel. 352-431450 E-mail: clanners@internet.lu About me: I will be 65 next week and will retire after 42 years spent as a civil servant working for the Ministry of Economy. Economic development was my responsibility and in this duty I travelled frequently to the US. I had the chance to be closely associated to the installation in Luxembourg of most of the more than 20 American companies that do business in this country. We will travel quite a bit during Summer, but I will be in Luxembourg from July 27th to August 15th and after September 4th. |
