About Klein & Simon: my
maternal grandfather's ancestors
Some of my maternal ancestors came to the
United States from Luxembourg. Other maternal ancestors came to the United
States from Luxembourg and Germany in the middle of the nineteenth century.
My mother was born Verna Mae Klein; her parents were Theodore and Frances (Kokenge)
Klein of Granville, Iowa. My mother's Klein ancestors have been traced to
Niederfeulen, Luxembourg. Her Simon ancestors came from Schoenholthausen,
Germany. In 1981, my cousin Frank W. Klein and I published Good Earth,
Black Soil (St. Mary's College Press), which is the story of our Klein
ancestors in Luxembourg and their journey to the United States.

came to Iowa to farm with his brothers, Nick and Jake Klein. When
