Here are samples of feedback that I've received from others about my books and scholarly essays:

Congratulations on superb editing.  I found your book listed and it came
today.  I was pleased with the treatment of the Hamilton diary, and
delighted with an acknowledgment. The difference in self-esteem between the young diarists "Wow, I had a great day!"  and the older women who knew they could never please God, and longed for a perfect heaven, while doubting that they merited it.

The Sandra Gens diary moved me to tears.   It is such a common set of
emotions for women dealing with grief, while having to attend to planning
services. I am personally doing well--in good health, still in my home, having the family Christmas here on Sunday, and enjoying our rare December weather.

Today your book lifted my spirits another notch--Thanks!      Jean Linton

Dear Dr. Bunkers,

Maybe you don't remember me, I am the French student writing a dissertation on the body in 19th-century American women's diaries... Well, I have sent my manuscript and I will defend my work on December 15th.
I just wanted to thank you again for the precious advice and support you
gave me. I contacted Judy Temple who sent me her article concerning the
"true" story of Emily Gillespie's diaries.  Unfortunately I received it too
late and I can't include these remarks in my dissertation. I cannot help
feeling nervous at the idea that my analysis is based on a "faux journal",
well... I know you are going to a diary conference in Brighton this month and I wish I could have attended but not enough time and not enough money have decided otherwise. Please let me know if a book will come out of it. Again, thank you for your help, Claire

Dear Suzy, How are you?  It was a great experience reading Diaries of Girls and Women. Martha Smith Brewster's entry "Of Such is the Kingson of Heaven" was a shocking experience to me.  I understood so well, having similar things happening in my life…."Four weeks ago on Sabbath night my little.." That line was deleted but was still there.  Suzy, when you read here, was it a great discovery?  To me it was such a noble deletion.  And, what's more, it almost subvert the genre of diary.  Isn't diary a private discourse? Can't one find relief here for the heart-bursting grief when one needs most?  But she crossed it out, not wanting to blame god nor to indulge in grief, nor to be seen by the husband maybe.  She must be very thoughtful and selfless to cross out the line that she would pour out the fresh and deep sufferings.
The diary of Agnes Barland McDaniel is so fascinating and thrilling that one feels as if reading an exotic and thrilling fiction except she was more purposeful.
Suzy, I realized the value and efforts of your work.  Thank you for sharing it with me. Now I am planning the format for the Chinese readership.  To add some notes and one or two entry translations.  What do you say?
I did send you some pages I tore from magazines, thinking it might be of interest for you future research. Incidentally, from August 21-25 there is an Asian Children's literature Conference in Dalian, China, a seaside resort.
        Yours, Sun Jianqiu

Subject: Dear Diary

Just a quick email to thank you all for your enthusiastic participation
in the Dear Diary conference.  Everybody helped to make an atmosphere of
shared discovery and learning, listening to each other and making new
connections.

I'm grateful to those of you who have already responded to Ted Timms's
request for feedback on the conference, and for ideas of possible
publishers.  Let's hope that the publishers are as excited as we are
about the prospect of publishing a volume of papers.

On a practical note, could you please let me know if you need receipt
for claiming your conference expenses.  I'd also be grateful for copies
of papers and handouts as requests are flooding in from participants.

With very best wishes - Chana

ps Dear Suzanne - I was so delighted to meet you after our series of
friendly emails!  I do hope we keep in touch and thank you again for the
copies of your books.  The diary arrived today much to Ruby's delight.
Best wishes - Chana
